Being a private GP in London

Based in W1, our professional and relaxed private GP practice was originally started by my father Dr Philip Goodwin and I joined in 1997 - taking over when he retired.  I now treat patients using a wide range of experience combined with the values of old fashioned family medicine in a modern setting.

Registered with the General Medical Council,  I follow their guidelines on Good Medical Practice. I am also qualified under the Royal College of General Practitioners and am registered with the Quality Care Commission.

I hold several post graduate qualifications including:

  • a Diploma in Occupational Health
  • a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Membership of the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine
  • the British Menopause Society Certificate of Care

Our patients are assured that we know about them and their medical history from personal experience - this saves a lot of time and I believe it means we can take better care of you overall.

My long standing reception staff - Caroline Mason and Sally Woodman - are experienced, helpful and always willing to go the extra mile to help with your problems. We ensure first rate communications with our patients by e-mailing test results and provide offer an appointment reminder service in the form of SMS messages to mobile phones.  All correspondence is encrypted to ensure confidentiality. Instructions of how to do this are given on the covering email.  It is simple to use.

In the unlikely event of a complaint we do have a written complaints procedure

Dr Stephanie Goodwin

MBCHB MRCGP DRCOG DOCCMED MIPM

I qualified from medical school in 1987 and having done my hospital training decided to go into general practice.  Since then I’ve worked in all kinds of practices – from some very poor areas in Manchester to my private practice in the West End.

It’s a real privilege being a GP, not a single day is the same and each patient is different.  Two patients may have a similar problem but it will mean something unique to each and the way I approach them may have to be varied.

I feel really lucky that I still love what I’m doing. There aren’t many jobs where people say thank you every day. Actually, I don’t always feel that I deserve thanks - after all, I’m just doing my job.

Medicine has changed so much over the last 30 years and trying to keep abreast of everything is a real challenge. However, it’s also really exciting and I love to go and see new techniques and technology being used and bring them into the practice.

30 years after qualifying I have become an associate specialist in the menopause at a London teaching hospital in the menopause. It’s wonderful to share the extra skills you pick up after so many years with the younger doctors starting their journey.
